Imaging Flashcards
1
Q
What 5 imaging techniques are used?
A
- radiography
- CT
- MRI
- Ultrasound
- PET
2
Q
What are the benefits of radiography (x-ray)?
A
- simple, quick
- low dose
3
Q
What are the uses for radiography?
A
- mammogram
- bone densitometry
- (+ contrast agent) for blood, urinary, GI tract
4
Q
What is CT?
A
- multiple 2D xrays to build 3D image
5
Q
What are the benefits and negatives of MRI?
A
- can differentiate normal and abnormal tissue
- no metal implants
6
Q
What are the benefits of ultrasound?
A
- can show static or moving images
- non-invasive
7
Q
what are the applications of ultrasound?
A
- babies
- doppler blood flow
8
Q
how does PET work?
A
- inject a positron emitting source, tissues will uptake it
- Collision with charged electrons will emit gamma rays, detected by gamma cameras
9
Q
what is the purpose of PET scans?
A
- shows where a substance is going in the body
- can show blockages or other issues
