Q

primary document
-accuracy of quote

A

-accurate because they were automatically at war due to their involvement in the British Empire
-our response to call was very generous as it was enthusiastic
-shown through the town of Berlin.
-parades and dances where held to show excitement and enthusiasm
-“Rule Britannia” national identity song was sung to boost morale
-thousands of soldier volunteers, flying over seas, and supplying resources and weapons
-part about the queen is slightly inaccurate in a way that our involvement was not up to the queen because the government and prime minister Robert Borden was in charge of decision making for the war.
-However, the queen played a huge role on influencing men to volunteer for the war, due to her being a symbolic figure to show their loyalty to the crown to show that they are being good Canadian’s

17
Q

vimy ridge and canadian identity

A

-this was an incredible accomplishment as many troops tried capturing it before, but were unsuccessful. Canadian troops were the first to win a significant victory
-this win shows countries that they are powerful and should not be underestimated
-shows woodrow wilson and other people that Canada can thrive on its own
-Thaine Mcdowell serves as an example of Canadian determination in this war
Canadian soldiers often carved the maple leaf into trenches and other places during the war as a symbol of Canadian Identity. Therefore, after capturing Vimy, a grueling task, soldiers carved Canada’s symbol into the walls of Vimy to not only represent their identity, but also Canada’s resilience and strength. The leaf was also a way for Soldiers to connect to their homeland and show pride for who they are fighting for.
