Hepatic Cirrhosis Flashcards
a chronic disease characterized by replacement of normal liver tissue with diffuse fibrosis.
Hepatic Cirrhosis
three types of cirrhosis or scarring of the liver:
*Alcoholic Cirrhosis
*Postnecrotic Cirrhosis
*Biliary Cirrhosis
the scar tissue characteristically surrounds the portal areas. This is most frequently caused by chronic alcoholism and is the most common type of cirrhosis.
Alcoholic Cirrhosis
there are broad bands of scar tissue. This is a late result of a previous bout of acute viral hepatitis.
Postnecrotic Cirrhosis
scarring occurs in the liver around the bile ducts. Usually results from chronic biliary obstruction and cholangitis.
Biliary Cirrhosis
What chemicals when exposed contributes to Hepatic Cirrhosis
*Carbon tetrachloride
*Chlorinated naphthalene
*arsenic
*phosphorus
Alcoholic Cirrhosis is characterized by
episodes of necrosis involving the liver cells
most useful in predicting the outcome of patients with liver disease
Child-Pugh Classification
the fibrous covering of the liver
Glisson Capsule
the patient with cirrhosis often has prominent, distended abdominal blood vessels called
Caput medusae
what are the deficient vitamins in hepatic cirrhosis
Vitamin A, C, and K
NASH
nonalcoholic steatohepatitis
is a key predictor of liver mortality in NASH
Fibrosis
have been shown to cause cell death of hepatic stellate cells that potentiate fibrosis.
Peroxisome Proliferator-activated Receptor (PPAR) agonists
have been reported to prevent chronic inflammation and liver fibrosis
Farnesoid X receptor agnoissts such as obeticholic acid
This herb has been used for centuries because of its healing and regenerative properties of liver disease
Milk Thistle (Silybum marianum)
may improve outcomes in liver disease by improving liver function, possible through enhancing antioxidant function
SAME-e (S-adenosylmethionine)
Primary Biliary Cirrhosis have been treated with __________ to improve liver function.
Ursodeoxycholic Acid
