Heart Flashcards
Heart
4 chambers (2 upper atrias, 2 lower ventricles)
2 upper atrias
receives blood, returning to the heart from rest of the body
2 lower ventricles
pump blood out of the heart into arteries
Right Ventricle
receives deoxygenated blood from the body and pumps it through the pulmonary artery to the lungs
Left Ventricle
Receives oxygenated blood from the lungs through the pulmonary vein and pumps it back into the body
Valves
one way blood flow through the heart
Valves of the Heart
1) between the atria and the ventricles
2) between the right ventricle and the pulmonary arteries
3) between the left ventricle and aorta
Blood Pressure (BP)
exerted on artery walls when heart pumps (avg 70 bpm)
High BP (systolic)
heart contracts (ejects blood)
Low BP (diastolic)
heart relaxes (refills with blood)
Pathways of circulation
pulmonary, systemic, and cardiac circulation
pulmonary circulation
between heart and lungs
systemic circulation
between the heart and rest of the body
cardiac circulation
coronary arteries
