Gland Seal and Warm Seal Systems Flashcards
TRA00126
What are the purposes of GSW and Warm Seals?
Prevent leakage from PCS through various pump and reactor tank penetration seals.
Lubricate and prevent damage to pump and reactor tank rotating seals.
Prevent deposition of crud on sealing surfaces.
Prevent build-up of sediment on Reactor Bottom Head and low flow areas of vessel.
What is the purpose of GSW?
Supply high pressure water to rotating seals and reactor tank penetrations.
When is GSW required to be operating?
GSW system must be online when the PCS is operating.
At what point during outage can the GSW be shut down?
After PCS depressurized and shutdown and ECPs have been turned off.
Why is the GSW system occasionally started during outage?
Maintain surge tank transmitter standing leg liquid full.
Maintain reactor tank level.
Support ECP operation to cool tank or reduce contamination levels.
What is the suction source for the GSW Pumps?
Gland Seal Water Feed Tank.
Describe GSW Pump parameters and control.
Discharges approximately 35 GPM at 510 psig to two different PCVs (DPCV-9-5 and PCV-9-15)
What is the function of DPCV-9-5?
Feeds to higher pressure areas of the PCS and controls pressure to 120 psig above reactor inlet pressure.
What is the function of PCV-9-15?
Feeds lower pressure areas of the PCS, controls pressure to approx 300 psig
Give supplies to Gland Seal Water Stations.
1/2/9 - DPCV-9-5
3A/3B/4 - PCV-9-15
What is the capacity of the GSW Feed Tank?
3000 gallons.
Where is the GSW Feed Tank located?
HX Mezzanine NW corner of HX room.
What is the purpose of the GSW Feed Tank?
Recycle PCS and N-16 effluent water for GSW pump suction.
What are the water sources to the GSW Feed Tank?
1) Bypass demin through LCV-1-3C @ 15 GPM
2) N-16 Effluent Water @ 12 GPM
3) LDW makeup through FCV-8-129 to control tank level between 40-60 inches.
Describe GSW Feed Tank Overpressure.
Plant air is supplied to the tank at 20 psig through PRV-6-365
Describe GSW Feed Tank vent path.
Gases purged from the tank are released to the HX exhaust grill through tank vent. HVE-4 then exhausts the HX area to the ATR Stack.
Draw GSW Feed Tank one-line.
Draw GSW One-Line.
When is makeup flow through FCV-8-129 to the GSW Feed Tank required?
If N16 is supplied from bypass demin then LDW must be added to GSW feed tank to maintain level.
If N16 is supplied from LDW no makeup through 8-129 is required.
What is the location of M-40/41 GSW Pumps?
Located in second basement NW corner of HDW room, north wall of gland seal cubicle.
What type of pumps are GSW Pumps?
Gear driven line centrifugal single stage 10550 RPM
What is the normal output flowrate and pressure of GSW Pumps?
35 GPM @ 500 psig.
Describe normal GSW Pump alignment.
Operating pump normally selected to E-9 Diesel bus. Standby selected to Comm power.
Standby pump starts on low pump discharge pressure of 405 psig.
What stops the GSW Pumps?
GSW Pumps stop on ESF-1 or ESF-4 on Hi Reactor Inlet Pressure PPS trip @ 385 psig.
