Experiment Insertion/Removal Flashcards
TRA00052
What is the purpose of the High Point Vents for experiments?
Prevent IPT from lowering to the point of uncovering the test.
Where are the high point vents located?
Actuated using reach rods from the reactor top area.
Describe the covering for high point vents.
Have a plug cover that is considered part of confinement.
What is the power supply for the 40/10 ton crane for experiment handling?
Commercial Power 670-E-10
What is the power supply for the 2-ton crane for experiment handling?
Diesel power 670-E-11
Where is the disconnect for the 2-ton crane?
Northeast corner of the reactor main floor.
What is the power supply for the Cask Console?
Diesel Commercial 670-E-67
What are the prerequisites for experiment removal?
Reactor shutdown
Loop cooled and depressurized
Loop pressure sources isolated by LOTO
Posting on loop primary and secondary cubicles
Posting on subpile room
Preop check of crane and rigging DOP-2.1.17
Radiation monitor setpoints
What are the specific experiment removal loop preparations for 2E or MUCH (1C/D)?
Remove TSP from shield cylinder
Disconnect impulse lines
Remove Missile suppression plug
What are the specific experiment removal loop preparations for PALM?
Remove PALM hydrotest closure plug
Install PALM lifting adapter
Disconnect TCs (alarm in LOCS)
What is the weight of the TSP?
10,400 lb
What is the purpose of the shield cylinder (donut)?
Restricts transient dose when transferring test.
Why do we open crane disconnect prior to raising the experiment on the bayonet?
Prevents radiation exposure due to runaway crane (use chain hoist instead)
What is the purpose of the Removal Sleeve?
Provide a waterfilled connection between the cask and the top head closure plate for removal of the test.
What is the purpose of the top head rotoflex pump?
Removes excess water from the refueling ports and donut area.
Describe ATR-1 Cask.
Sized for all tests - used for transfers within ATR (can’t leave the building)
Uses cable winch system with load tensioner.
Describe TRC-1 and 2 Casks.
All stainless steel shielding (no lead)
More complex and time-consuming
Uses chain hoist with remote camera.
Describe flushing of casks.
Cask is typically flushed if cask previously handled a fueled test and will be handling a non-fueled test
Always flush after use on 2A-C
Cask is set on catcher can for flushing.
Describe shipping of TRC cask?
Move cask to storage stand.
Bolt on bottom shielding and plug assembly
Load onto transport for shipment to NRF
Describe use of ATR-1 after loaded.
Move cask to CTS over empty storage can
Clear nozzle trench of personnel
Lower test into can (seated by activation of LOW LOAD alarm at 32 feet)D
Describe lessons learned from ATR-1.
TRC spacer under storage can when using ATR-1 cask caused crushed can.
What is the purpose of the hydrotest closure plug?
Allows loop to be pressurized without a test installed.
What is the purpose of the configuration gauge check?
Verifies that closure sleeve locking ring has not backed out.
Verifies that closure plug locking ring is tightened.
What action is required on a water on reactor top alarm from removal sleeve not sealing to IPT?
Start Reactor Top Pump
What to do when IPT level Lo is received?
Fill cask with LDW (either hose or regular).
