- Chancre (painless, hard lesion) “Chancre”
2. Rash, sore throat, headache, mild fever, malaise, myalgia

- Latent- no clinical signs
4. Gummas, dementia, blindness, paralysis, heart failure

Narrow spirochetes difficult to be seen by regular light microscope

Treponema pallidum

Transmission for Syphilis
- Sexual contact
- Mother to fetus cause
- death

Susceptibility for Syphilis
Sexually active individuals
Diagnosis for Syphilis
- Primary, secondary, and congenital
- Antibody test against T. pallidum antigens
Treatment for Syphilis
Primarily with penicillin G
Prevention for Syphilis
- Abstinence
- Mutual monogamy
- Condoms
