General anatomy- Skin Anatomy Flashcards
what are the 3 major layers of the skin
Epidermis
Dermis
Hypodermis
What kind of epithelium is the epidermis made of
Stratified keratinized squamous epithelium
What are the layers of the epidermis from out to in (5)
‘Californians Like Girls in String Bikinis’
stratum:
Corneum
Lucidum (only found in thick skin)
Granulosum
Spinosum
Basale
What kind of specialized cells does the epidermis also contain(4)
Melanocytes (pigment producing cells)
Langerhans cells (immune identification)
Merkel (mechanoreceptors)
Naked nerve endings
What are the two main layers of the Dermis and what specialized cells does each contain (2)
- Papillary Layer- loose connective tissue with Meissners corpuscles + krause corpuscles (cold sensitive)
- Reticular- deeper and contains collagen + elastic fibres
What specialized cells does the hypodermic contain
Pancinian corpuscles (vibration)
Ruffini (jt pos sense)
What are the 2 types of sweat glands and what do they secrete + where they are fund
- Eccrine (all over)- produce h20/salt- thermoreg
- Apocrine (axilla, mons pubis, anus)- oily mixture, body scent
What are sebaceous glands and where are they found
-everywhere expect thick skin areas
-produce oily secretion called sebum
