associated with catheters, IV drug use, chronic lung disease, immunosuppression

slow progression
bilateral
creamy white chorioretinal lesions with vitritis
vitreous colonies- cotton balls
progress to retinal necrosis and detachment

Diagnosis for Fungal Endophthalmitis
vitreous biopsy
Treatment for Fungal Endophthalmitis
systemic anti-fungals
vitrectomy
Cause of Ocular Histoplasmosis
inhalation of Histoplasma capsulatum
common in dirt around Mississippi River Valleys
Symptoms of Ocular Histoplasmosis
asymptomatic
Signs of Ocular Histoplasmosis
punched out chorioretinal scars (histo spots)
peripapillary scars
no vitiritis
Tx of Ocular Histoplasmosis
none if asymptommatic
monitor with home Amsler grid
Cause of Cryptococcosis
yeast Cryptococcus neoformans
pigeon poop
Patients at risk for Cryptococcosis
immune compromised
alcoholics
Signs of Cryptococcosis
papilledema EOM palsies ptosis optic neuropathy focal choroidal infiltrates
Diagnosing Cryptococcosis
culture
CSF spores
Tx of Cryptococcosis
IV or oral anti-fungals
Cause of Choroidal Pneumocystosis
Pneumocystis jirovecii
