What is the importance of occludens in the gut?
The zonulla occludens functions to seal the lumen of the gut from the rest of the body. This is obviously important since the lumen of the gut is technically the outside of the body. The occludens junction is of great importance in water balance and the transport of molecules from the lumen of the gut to the basal fluid.
What are the proteins that make up a gap junction?
A gap junction consists of a six protein hemipore of connexion that will line up and dock with another six protein hemipore.
How does mechanical stress interact with focal adhesions?
Mechanical stress will result in the activation of kinases associated with the focal adhesion. That will then go to the nucleus and affect transcription.
