When will Fire investigation units attend with in the PDA?

Re kindling who would be notified and by who?
Area DAC, fire safety principal manager and staff officer. As soon as possible.
Normally be notified by the fire investigation team.
When must you request fire investigation unit.

- can’t find the cause of primary fire
- serious injury or fatalities- even self inflicted or removed.
- rekindling
- you are refused entry for purposes of fire investigation or need to take samples
- an serious injuries not covered above
For what purpose might the fire investigation dog be required? and how might an IC go about requesting the FI Dog?
To search for ignitable liquids/accelerants.
A request should be made for FIT to contact the appliance mobile and the FIO could advise if the FI Dog would be appropriate.
What should be done when requesting FIT?
Name the appliance mobile which the IC can be contacted on (makes sure that it is turned on) and monitor the radio to give or receive information
when sending the message the work “Fire investigation Unit” should be used and not FIU, as this may be confused with FRU.
What questions might FIT ask to assist in their investigations?
- part of build first involved
- the colour of the smoke
- now did the fire react
- any explosions
- unusual odours
- whether conditions
- rapid fire spread?
- were doors or windows open
- alarm sounding?
- behaviour of persons in area or previously a incidents
What actions will assist FIU in their investigations, if required?
- Minimise personnel inside area
- Limit water
- Note items removed or moved
-Note person entering the scene for later elimination - when isolating power use main isolation switch.
If the Fire investigating officer is not able to be immediately deployed, they will agree with the IC one of the following?

- immediate attendance
- deferred attendance
- data collection only
- Advice only
- Appliance to remain at the scene for continuity and powers of entry
If you unable to determine secondary fire, should the IC contact FIU?
Yes. This must be discussed post incident. This will enable constructive guidance to be given to aid future accurate recordings
If there is evidence that the fire is deliberate and assistance is not needed to determine the cause. Should FIU be requested?
An FIU does not need to be request. The IC should request the attendance of the police investigate team
When can NOT KNOW be entered on an IMS?
It should not be entered on an IMS - unless FIT are still investigate the cause. in this case NOT KNOW should be entered followed by entering PENDING FI FINDINGS in main cause

As part of arrangements between police and LFB what form should be filled out to help police with initial investigations?
RRF1 found on all front line appliances
And used for the following
- serious and life changing injuries
- fatalities
- any deliberate or suspected deliberate nature
if a fire has been identified as deliberate or suspected deliberate who should be informed/requested?
the Police and after the fire they will be in charge of the scene of the crime.
If the FIU are not avail. Who would be mobilised? And for what incidents?

- Explosions
- Fire involving hazardous chemicals, including cylinders
- Where an ambulance has been requested
