High voltage is classed as what?

A

Low below 1000v ac (1500 dc)

High above 1000v

17
Q

Minimum safe approach distances at:

Overhead line, substations or other

No hose - ladders or aerials or tall equipment

A

Substations / overhead lines / other electrical supply 5m

Ladders/aerials 10m and 20m training

18
Q

Distances in dense smoke or flames approaching conductors?

A

10m corridors

19
Q

Using hose in electrical incident

When using hand held jet?

When using a monitor (ground or aerial)

A

Hand held jet 20m

Monitor 30m

20
Q

On arrival if overhead cables and pylons are involved. Who should contacted?

A

National grid requesting urgent attendance of their authorised person

21
Q

Every Electrical supply or distribution facility will display a?

A

a unique identifier located on a conspicuous indicator plate. and used stated when sending an informative message

22
Q

Incidents involving smoke issuing from pavements or explosions in pavements can often involve pavement level electrical ducting. Incidents of this nature present a genuine hazard to crews. What should crews not do?

A

in
the past attending crews have been injured whilst removing inspection covers or in trying to
access ducting at the point an explosion has occurred. Under no circumstances should crews
seek to lift covers or further expose a pavement level cable system to extinguish the fire, unless
the authorised person has confirmed that power has been isolated and any residual current has
been discharged.

23
Q

At incidents involving explosions where by pavement covers are lifted. what should we do?

A

The high voltages and complexity in the nature of the various types of cable conveyed through these structures mean that once the Brigade is in attendance there is little that crews can do other
than mitigate the risk to passers-by from further over pressures and provide cover for nearby fire
risks. and make sure that that the releivent authority are informed/requested
