feedback Flashcards
what is extrinsic feedback
from an external source
eg coach
advantages of extrinsic feedback
-very beneficial to a performer to improve technique and tactics
disadvanatages of extrinsic feedback
-if feedback is inaccurate or from an unreliable source it could negatively impact performance or motivation
-can be relied on too heavily by the performer meaning they may not develop intrinsic feedback
what is intrinsic feedback
from an inside source
eg proprioceptors and known as kinesthesis
advantages of intrinsic feedback
-very effective as performer recognises the feel of the skill when performed well
-movements can be altered as they perform it
-makes it very quick and independent of external force
disadvantages of intrinsic feedback
-interpretation could be inaccurate and lead to poor performance
what is positive feedback
both intrinsic and extrinsic
highlights what went well in the performance and offers reward
eg praise to the performer
advantages of positive feedback
can be extremely motivating and build confidence
disadvantages of positive feedback
-looses effect if over used
-can have negative effect on performer if undeserved
what is negative feedback
often called criticism
intrinsic and extrinsic
focuses on what wasn’t successful in performance
advantages of negative feedback
effective for some performers as it is clear about what they need to improve and can be motivating
disadvantages of negative feedback
can be demotivating to the performer and cause them to give up
what is knowledge of performance
-feedback about the movements that the performer has carried out rather than the result
eg a basketball player will use feedback about the technique they used rather than if the shot went in or not
advantages of knowledge of performance
can be intrinsic or extrinsic
-performer can then use this feedback to improve their performance
disadvantages of knowledge of performance
some performers may only be concerned with the result
