What is the Qantas support language?
R– really information, A– Advise if they are aware, I – indicate concern, s – solution advised, A – Emergency language.
What are the three types of evacuations?
Unprepared evacuation, prepared evacuation And precautionary disembarkation’s
Definition of sterile flight deck ?
Closure of main entry door until on route PA is made. “Cabin crew prepare the cabin for landing” at top of descent until opening of the main entry door after landing.
When would flight crew initiate an emergency cabin preparation?
Emergency landing/ditching , landing gear not fully down and locked, known or suspected malfunction resulting in aircraft damage on touchdown
What’s the NITS briefing?
N– nature of emergency, I – intentions, T – time remaining until landing, S– specific instructions or factors that may affect evacuation.
How do you brief the passengers during emergency?
I – identification of the speaker, NITS
What equipment should you take as first officer during a Ditching?
BCF, lifejacket, torch
What does SAAP stand for?
Suspicious article action plan
What is the HELP method?
Heat escape listening posture. head out of the water, elbows tight to chest, legs raised and place hands under/over knees
Time of useful consciousness at 18,000, 20,000 and 25000 feet during moderate activity?
10, 5, 2 minutes
Time of use full consciousness at 18,000 feet, 20,000 feet, and 25,000 feet sitting quietly?
30 minutes, 12 minutes and 3 minutes
Physiological zone?
Sealevel to 10,000 feet
Physiological deficit zone?
10,000 feet– 50,000ft
Definition of hypoxia?
Diminished availability of oxygen to the body tissues due to insufficient oxygen reaching the blood
Symptoms of hypoxia mild, moderate and severe?
Mild – fatigue, feeling warm, lack of concentration, reduced performance. Moderate – mood swings, breathlessness, cyanosis, tachycardia. Severe – death, blue pale of the skin, loss of consciousness, convulsions.
Treatment for hypoxia?
100% oxygen, descend if necessary below 10,000 feet, emergency descent recall actions.
How long before flying after diving?
Less than two hours cumulative equals 12 hours 24 hours in each other case
Symptoms of decompression sickness?
Dull ache around the large joints, skin tingling, headache, body weakness, chest tightness
Treatment of decompression sickness?
Reduced physical activity, administer oxygen high flow, loosen tight clothing
Serviceability of PBE?
Tamper prevention integrity seals, humidity indicator equals blue
Serviceability of first aid kit?
Present and sealed
What’s the last item of clothing you take off for enhanced biohazard PPE kit?
Gloves
When do you deploy lifejackets for infants/children?
At exit of aircraft
When do you deploy lifejackets for adults?
Once clear of the aircraft
Precautions when using oxygen bottles?
Don’t bump or drop, no smoking or naked flame, remove grease/oil from face, don’t lubricate fittings, don’t completely empty
Symptoms of hyperventilation?
Tingling sensation, twitching of limbs, rapid breathing, rapid pulse, dizziness and shortness of breath
What are some things to break the sterile flight deck rule?
Fire/smoke, medical emergency, unusual noise, fuel/fluid
When should you break critical phase of flight rule?
Visible flames inside the cabin
Two ways for the brace signal from the flight deck?
PA “Attention brace brace brace”, flash seatbelt sign
How to declare a state of emergency?
Emergency call button interphone system (primary) PA standard phraseology (would cabin crew report to flightdeck immediately) PA chimes (back up) – six consecutive times (three pushes)
What’s the alert phase PA?
Attention all passengers remain seated and await further instructions
What’s the ditching PA?
Attention this is a ditching follow your crew members instructions
Who orders the evacuation in a ditching?
Most senior cabin crew member
What’s the criteria for immediate evacuation?
Fire, anything could cause immediate danger, Cabin broken
Anticipated turbulence PA?
All passengers and crew be seated and fasten seatbelt’s
Un anticipated turbulence PA?
All passengers and crew be seated and fasten seatbelt immediately
How to recognise Crew incapacitation?
Challenge and response
What’s the hot principle?
Hidden, Obviously suspicious, not typical of that area
What are the four counter threat response levels?
1 verbal abuse, 2 physical assault, 3 life threatening, 4 attack on flight dick
What will the cabin crew say if attack on flight deck?
Captain I must come into the flight deck immediately
What materials can we not use the BCF on ?
Burning metals eg brake fire
Operations of the BCF ?
Remove from bracket, keep upright, PASS
Serviceability of the BCF ?
Secure in bracket
Red indicator disc is in place
Precautions when using the BCF ?
Can cause adverse breathing reaction so where a PBE
Avoid electrical wires
If discharging in the flight deck then have oxygen masks on.
Operation of PBE ?
Hold with hood facing down Discharge cylinders away from you Snap open Listen for hissing sound Palms facing in spread wide and place over head with hair tucked in
Precautions with the PBE ?
Remove objects from around the head before donning
Ensure long hair is tucked inside the PBE
Place over head ASAP to avoid loosing oxygen
When taking PBE off be away from fire
How to open the escape hatch ?
Pull the handle from closed to vent
Pull down from the front
What is the difference between gas expansion and gas bubble formation ?
Gas expansion occurs when climbing in altitude due to the reduction in air pressure. Gas bubble formation is the nitrogen escaping into the bloodstream which can cause the benz or decompression sickness
What are the cabin crew and flight crew doing after a crash ?
Making sure everyone stays together in a safe place. No smoking or cellphones
What to do as flight crew if you need to conduct the lockdown procedure ?
Check the flight deck door is closed locked/deadbolted
