Q

An explosive decompression is one that takes place
in ?.

greater than
one and less than ten seconds

86
Q

Fire is a chemical reaction in which three elements are essential ?

A

Fuel
Oxygen
Heat

87
Q

Principles for extinguishing a fire are ?

A

(SSCC)
Starving (limitation of fuel) is by removing combustible fuel
from the vicinity of the fire.
Smothering (limitation of oxygen) is to sufficiently reduce the
oxygen content of the atmosphere in the immediate vicinity of
the burning fuel, thereby causing combustion to cease.
Cooling (limitation of temperature) is the application of
water. The water absorbs heat from the fire, thus reducing
temperature of the burning fuel and the fire dies away.
Chemical interference with the chain reaction of combustion

88
Q

Before using a Fire Extinguisher, ensure the fire extinguisher is ?
.

A

operable by giving it a
short burst, aimed away from people

89
Q

When checking for heat in overhead lockers, cabin side walls, floors,
ceiling, and cabin compartment doors, the whole area must be felt
using ?

A

the back of the hand to determine the location of the heat
source. This prevents burning the palm and incapacitation from an
electrical shock.

90
Q

The first Crewmember to observe the smoke or fire becomes ?

A

The fire fighter

91
Q

How to describe a fire ?

A

LITCDS location, intensity, Tye, colour, density, Smells

92
Q

Before discharging a BCF extinguisher on the Flight Deck ?

A

the crew oxygen regulators set at 100%

93
Q

What’s a DAM ?

A

Duty airport manager

94
Q

If a Flight Crew member becomes incapacitated, use the following
procedure ?

A

Check the position of essential controls and switches; and
Engage the autopilot, if possible.
Pan Call, declare an emergency to ATC:Advise any holding time required to complete cockpit
activities;
Call for assistance from other Crew members, passengers or
qualified personnel onboard;
Restrain Crew member, by sliding seat back from controls,
tighten seat belt and lock shoulder harness, as removal of
occupant may not be an option;
Administer First Aid, as appropriate (‘Emergency’ oxygen);
and
Request ambulance and medical assistance to meet aircraft,
giving details of the illness.
Prepare for the Approach and Landing:
Complete normal checklists and procedures; and
If the Captain is incapacitated, the aircraft may be taxied,
after landing, from the right hand seat using rudder pedal
steering, differential power and braking. If difficulties are
expected or experienced the aircraft should be stopped and
towed to the parking bay.

95
Q

When do we have to go into lockdown ?

A

Level 3 or 4 but can go in at any time

96
Q

What should you do as flight crew in a passenger disturbance?

A

Don’t go back into the cabin to help. Assess through the peep hole and implement the lockdown procedure

97
Q

If several survivors are in the water together, their survival is
enhanced if they adopt the ?

A

Group Huddle’.
Survival will be improved if several survivors form a ring and face
towards the centre, with arms placed around each other and their
sides touching and thighs raised, to reduce heat loss.

98
Q

At 20,000 feet the air pressure is only ?

A

1/2 of that at sea level

99
Q

Human body is most comfortable at what humidity?

A

50% the aircraft gets to 10%

100
Q

How does rate of ascent effect TOUC ?

A

The quicker the climb in altitude, the more sudden the onset of
hypoxia. Time of Useful Consciousness may be reduced by as
much as 50% in an explosive or sudden Decompression.

101
Q

Hyperventilation is defined as ?

A

abnormally fast or deep respiration
resulting in the loss of carbon dioxide from the blood.

A

Severe Pain
Blood and clear fluid may be
present in the ear canal

106
Q

What is decompression sickness ?

A

In decompression sickness the
nitrogen dissolved in the blood is forced out of solution by decreased
atmospheric pressure.

107
Q

What’s a MQV ?

A

Medically qualified volunteer

108
Q

If a patient is unconscious do you need consent for fist aid ?
