Cabin Crew Incapacitation ?
Advise PIC, cease service, administer first aid, maintain communication.
Flight Crew Incapacitation ?
Check position of controls/switches, engage the autopilot, PANPAN call.
Consider;
Holding time
Call for assistance from other crew members, pax.
Restrain crew member by sliding seat back from controls, tighten seatbelt and lock harness.
Administer first aid (Oxygen emergency) request ambulance and give details of illness.
Prepare for the approach and landing.
If a flight crew member becomes incapacitated, diversion should be considered paying attention to
the possibility of others becoming ill.
Attempted Hijack ?
Assess the threat to life and flight deck access. Jumpseat down and flight deck door locked- All
access to flight deck should be suspended until the disturbance is resolved. Squawk 7500, pass
on all information to ATC that could help, maintain contact with cabin crew members, land as
soon as possible.
- Lockdown may only be terminated with strict instructions of the CAT via Qantas Security (level
1/2), or to remain until aircraft is on the ground (level 3/4).
SAAP ?
FCOM 3.6.1 SAAP. Lock down of the flight deck. Notification of the lockdown and SAAP search
is the responsibility of the PIC. FA1 will carry out the SAAP and becomes the search manager. A checklist in the SAAP kit is to be used. Captain may request the FA start the search somewhere different.
Communication with Qantas Emergency Assessment Team is of highest priority- Use company
channels or ATC. Describe threat situation in detail.
Restraining pax ?
- PIC must approve the use of restraints on any passenger or crew member. Can be used in
extenuating circumstances but the PIC must be notified ASAP
PIC is to contact the duty pilot and Qantas Security controller
HIRO
Air Security Officer ?
If they require contact with the PIC they will do so through an FA. They will only ask to talk via the
inter phone. They will never ask to enter the flight deck. If the Captain requires contact with them
they will call the FA and ask only for pax name XXX in seat XXX to be allowed to use the inter phone.
Any kind of security issue/threat/passenger hijack situation ?
FLY; Level, ice, current fuel status, TOD distance etc.
Seat belts ON
Alert PA
Contact with the cabin
Lockdown
Squawk 7500 if required
Contact AT and company of potential security threat/issue
SAAP if there has been a threat against the aircraft with a bomb/explosive
- If there has been no threat that requires a SAAP; Generate options i.e. WX, current status of
cabin and how urgent it is to get on the ground, and where we could go and successfully effect a
landing. Once a decision has been made notify company, request police.
Assign tasks; Fuel, FMS + hold, ATC diversion, Approach brief, first aid for the cabin if required,
notify them of time to landing and if possible prepare the cabin for landing. All normal procedures
still to be completed!!!!!!! Hold at the initial if required.
Be prepared that there may not be a cabin ready light on for the approach checklist.
Persons in Custody ?
Usually maximum number is two unless the person is mentally disturbed then it is limited to one.
Restraint equipment may be used with the PIC authority.
Row 12 is preferable
Turbulence Event ?
Secure loose items if time permits- “All Passengers and crew be seated and fasten seatbelts
immediately”
VB 210

AP off for severe turbulence, YD engaged.

RA Reversal- 2.5 seconds to respond
Windshear ?
-15kts indicated airspeed
-500FPM vertical speed changes
-5 degrees pitch attitude
-1 dot GS
-Unusual power lever position for a significant period of time
On take-off; No reduced power, longest runway., flaps 5, v2 and delay flap retraction until clear of
windshear.
Landing; Stable by 700fpm, flaps 15, if required conduct GA.
Severe Ice ?
AP disconnect
CL max
Set max continuous power.
Min speed 190kts
Exit the icing conditions by changing altitude and/or course as required
Can be considered clear when ice on the side window is removed.
When clear;
PL and CL adjust
Airspeed as required
AP as required
Imminent Overtemperature or Hung Start ?
Imminent over temp = FADEC shutdown
Request “Aborted engine start immediate actions”
Hung start= engine not stable by 30s
“Aborted engine start immediate action”
Failure to Light Up ?
Within 16s = FADEC shutdown
“Aborted start immediate actions “
Rapid Depressurisation/ Emergency Descent ?
