What is the difference between descriptive, analytical and experimental studies?

A

Descriptive
- Describe observations about cases

Analytical studies
- Look at populations and analyzing them from particular variables

Experimental
- involve some type of intervention to see if it influences a particular outcome

A

e.g. 100 random dog owners and ask if the dog every had a mammary tumor; when or if their dog was spayed to see if it is related to tumor development

e.g. look at veterinary students and law students as two diff cohorts and compare incidence of alcohol related liver disease

e.g. cats with polydactyly and compare to control group of cats with normal digits and look for risk factors associated with polydactyly.
