    • Follicular lining cells produce thyroglobulin.
  • Parafollicular or C cells are found between follicles.
    • C cells produce calcitonin. C cells are larger and lighter than follicular lining cells.

  • These endocrine cells look similar when stained with routine stains such as HE but they produce specific hormone:
    • alpha cells secrete glucagon
    • beta cells secrete insulin
    • delta cells secrete somatostatin
    • F cells secrete pancreatic polypeptide
