Embryonic Development Flashcards
What are the three layers that form during gastrulation?
Ectoderm, Mesoderm, Endoderm
What forms from the ectoderm?
The epidermis and neural cells
What forms from the Mesoderm?
musculoskeletal system, connective tissues, organs, blood and the dermis/ subcutis
What forms from the endoderm?
lining of gut and respiratory system, out-pouchings (liver and pancreas)
What is the notochord?
A cluster of mesoderm cells
What does the notochord induce in the ectoderm?
A change that forms the neural plate or neural ectoderm
Where are the neural crest cells originally?
At the boundary between the ectoderm and the neural plate
What direction does the neural tube run?
Cranial to caudal axis
What is a somite?
A block of tissues
What is a dermatome?
A segment of dermis derived from one somite
How many spinal nerves innervate one dermatome?
One
What is an autonomous region?
Non-overlapping region innervated by a singular spinal nerve
What does the spinal nerve split into after exciting the vertebra?
Dorsal and ventral branches
What is gastrulation?
Formation of gastrula and 3 germ layers
