Detain a person you reasonably suspect of being involved in a crime or offence which is punishable by imprisonment.

When can a detention be extended?
In order to secure or obtain evidence, usually in more serious indictable crimes. Must be authorised by and inspector or above and can be extended by a further 12 hours.
