Q

To compare two similar things (as ~ as), German uses
genauso ~ wie with positive sentences, and
so ~ wie with negative sentences.

English comparisons use the accusative case for the second word, but German uses the nominative for both sides.

Study the following examples:

She is as beautiful as me. Sie ist genauso schön wie ich. (Lit. She is as beautiful as I.)
I am not as fat as him. Ich bin nicht so dick wie er. (Lit. I am not as fat as he.)

To make a comparison with than, German uses als.
She is more beautiful than me. Sie ist schöner als ich.
He is fatter than you. Er ist dicker als du.

To express a double comparative (the ~ the ~), German uses je ~ desto ~.

Study the following examples:
The bigger the better. Je größer desto besser.
The more the merrier. Je mehr desto besser.
