Q

Subordinating conjunction is a fancy term for words that are used to combine clauses.

Some prepositions also act as conjunctions, but have no impact on the case of the clause. For example bis (until) is an accusative preposition, but as a conjunction has no impact.

Study the following subordinating conjunctions:

 ALS…as / when
 BEVOR…before
 BIS…until
 EHE…until
 DA…as / since / because
DAMIT…so that / in order to
 DASS…that
 FALLS…in case
 NACHDEM…after

The clause with the conjunction will send the verb to the end of the sentence, and if the sentence begins with these conjunctions, the verb of the main clause will directly follow the verb of the subordinate clause.

Study the following examples:

I'm doing it now so I am prepared tomorrow.
Ich mache es jetzt, DAMIT ich morgen bereit bin.

I'm doing it now so I am prepared tomorrow.
DAMIT ich morgen bereit bin, mache ich es jetzt.

Unlike English, the conjunction DASS (that) is used with WOLLEN (to want).
Study the following example:

I want you to come.
Ich WILL, DASS du kommst. (Lit. I want that you come.)
