how do you prepare a patient for ultrasonogrpahy
A
- clip around the apex beat of on both sides and midline in the most cranial abdomen
- apply spirit
- apply gel
usually only doing right sided views in practice

what do you need to perform a cardiac ultrasound on a horse
A
- low frequency (high depth) probe (2.5 Mhz)
- phased array probe
- dedicated machine capable of imaging to at least 30 cm
- stocks (?) some level of restraint in darkness

where do you place an ultrasound probe to obtain a cardiac ultrasound
A
- right side (to see left side of heart, you scan through the right ventricle to image the left)

how do you set up an ultrasound machine to perform an echocardiograph
A
probe:
- cats and small dogs: 7.5 MHz
- medium dogs: 5 MHz
- large dogs: 2.5-3.5 MHz
