  1. Socialisation is seen as essential to the smooth functioning of society.
  2. Socialisation acts as a kind of social glue bonding people together (integration).
  3. Through socialisation, we learn the shared norms and values of our culture (value consensus)
  4. This keeps society stable, and therefore benefits society as a whole and all its members.

List the four views of Conflict Approaches to Sociology

A
  1. Socialisation is the means by which the ruling class control the working class.
  2. Through socialisation, the working class learn the beliefs and values of the ruling class – the dominant ideology.
  3. Dominant Ideology justifies (legitimates) the capitalist system and the powerful position of the ruling class within it, making it seem natural and normal.
  4. Socialisation therefore benefits the ruling class.
