Component 1: Soc 8 Flashcards
Define PAR-Q
Physical Activity Readiness Questionaire - a questionnaire of which an individual beginning an exercise programme may answer to decide whether or not they can participate in physical actovity.
Why do we perform a warm up?
- Prepare the muscles
- Prepare the joints
- Prepare the mind
- Prevent injury
- Prepare the ligament
- Prepare the cardiovascular system
What are the 3 phases of a warm up?
- Cardiovascular, to gradually raise the heart rate towards the working heart rate.
- Stretching, broken down into static (relaxed on the spot stretching) and dynamic (using movements specific to a sport)
- Sports Specific, practicing the skills of an activity which can vary.
Define Cool down
Activities used similar to the warm up to return the heart rate gradually to its resting level. It consists of a few minutes of light jogging and static stretching.
What are SMART goals?
Specific
Measurable
Achievable
Realistic
Time-bound
Define Specific
Exactly knowing what the goal is. It may include a series of steps towards the overall goal. ‘I want to run 100 meters further in my Cooper Run Test’ is an example.
Define Measurable
It will be easy to know when goals are achieved. It is measurable whether or not someone had run an extra 100 meters in the Cooper Run.
Define Achievable
Goals must be attainable, unachieveable goals can be demotivating. A 100 meter improvement in the Cooper Test is more achievable than 1000 meters.
Define Realistic
Reasons that may hinder the completion of that goal. For example, the gym was closed so I wasn’t able to train.
Define Time-bound
When the goal has an end point. If not, then achieving the goal will become indefinite and less likely to occur. For example, someones Personal Exercise Programme may be 6 weeks.
