What are the 3 phases of a warm up?

A
  • Cardiovascular, to gradually raise the heart rate towards the working heart rate.
  • Stretching, broken down into static (relaxed on the spot stretching) and dynamic (using movements specific to a sport)
  • Sports Specific, practicing the skills of an activity which can vary.

Define Cool down

A

Activities used similar to the warm up to return the heart rate gradually to its resting level. It consists of a few minutes of light jogging and static stretching.

Define Specific

A

Exactly knowing what the goal is. It may include a series of steps towards the overall goal. ‘I want to run 100 meters further in my Cooper Run Test’ is an example.

Define Measurable

A

It will be easy to know when goals are achieved. It is measurable whether or not someone had run an extra 100 meters in the Cooper Run.

Define Achievable

A

Goals must be attainable, unachieveable goals can be demotivating. A 100 meter improvement in the Cooper Test is more achievable than 1000 meters.

Define Realistic

A

Reasons that may hinder the completion of that goal. For example, the gym was closed so I wasn’t able to train.

Define Time-bound

A

When the goal has an end point. If not, then achieving the goal will become indefinite and less likely to occur. For example, someones Personal Exercise Programme may be 6 weeks.
