Q

Give an example of where an athlete would require Agility.

A

Running a 100m race does not require agility but doing floor work exercises in gymnastics does. A rugby player running for the try line also needs agility to dodge tackling defenders

Q

Give an example of where an athlete would require Power.

A

Athletes may use power to propel themselves or an object e.g. a sprinter driving out of the blokes or a discuss thrower throwing the discus. In many sports athletes need to be able to jump high either in a game such as football or in a discipline such as high jump.

Q

Give an example of where an athlete would require speed.

A

An example of where speed is required most is in the 100m where good speed makes you more likely to win a short distance race. A lack of speed can be overcome in some sports by high skill levels, it can also make up for a lack of skill.

Why is fitness testing important?

A
  • Identifying strengths and weaknesses to change your programme to make improvements
  • Monitoring your progress to have an idea of the effect the training has
