Component 1: Soc 14 Flashcards
What are the 12 specification muscles and their location?
- Gluteus maximus (bottom)
- Hamstring (back upper leg)
- Gastrocnumius (calf)
- Latissimus dorsi (side of the core)
- Tricep (back upper arm)
- Deltoid (shoulder)
- Bicep (front upper arm)
- Guadriceps (fromt upper leg)
- Pectorals major (chest)
- External obliques (side of core)
- Tibialis anterior (shin)
- Hip flexors (inward side of upper leg)
What are the 12 specification muscles function?
Gluteus maximus - adduct and extend the leg at the hips
Hamstring - flex the leg and the knees
Gastrocnumius - planta-flexion at the ankle.
Latissimus dorsi - pull your arms down at your shoulders
Tricep - extend the arm at the elbow
Deltoid - raise the arm in all directions
Bicep - flex the arm at the elbows
Guadriceps - extend the leg at the knee
Pectoralis major - adduct the arm at shoulder
External obliques - flex and rotate the spinal collumn
Tibialis anterior - dorsi flexion at the ankle
Hip flexors - flex the hip
What are antagonistic pairs?
Muscles that work together to create a movement, one muscle contracts (agonist) while the other one relaxes (antagonist).
Name the antagonistic pairs.
- Deltoids and pectorals
- Triceps and biceps
- Gluteus maximus and hip flexors
- Quadriceps and hamstrings
- Tibialis anterior and gastrocnemius
What are voluntary and involuntary muscles?
Voluntary - muscles under your control
Involuntary - muscles not under your control
What are the muscle fibres?
Type 1 - Slow twitch muscle fibres suited for low intensity
Type 2a - Fast twitch muscle finres used for anaerobic work
Type 2x - Similar to 2a but used to generate force
