What are the 3 main regions that the neural tube expands and divides into?
The forebrain, Midbrain and hindbrain
What is the body plan of a true CNS?
bilaterally symmetrical
What is the name of the guts own nervous system?
The Enteric nervous system
What is the peripheral nervous system?
all of the nerves outside of the CNS, e.g Cranial and spinal nerves and ganglia bodies
What are bundles of neurone axons called?
Tracts
What is the purpose of myelination?
To speed up action potentials
What are afferent nerves?
Nerves travelling away from the Brain or Spinal cord
What are efferent nerves?
Nerves travelling towards the brain or spinal cord
What are special afferent nerves?
Nerves of the special senses, e.g sense, smell and sight
What is the somatic nervous system?
The voluntary nervous system
What is the visceral nervous system?
The involuntary nervous system
