administration of oxygen to increase the supply of oxygen to the lungs; which increases availability of oxygen to the body tissues. NAs never stop/adjust/or administer oxygen
combustion
process of burning; oxygen is a very dangerous fire hazard bc it makes other things burn (supports combustion)
flammable
easily ignited and capable of burning quickly; ex. alcohol/nail polish remover/cigs/matches/flammable liquids/petroleum based
Safety data sheet (SDS)
required by OSHA that all hazardous chemicals have a SDS which details the chemical ingredients, chemical dangers, and safe handling, storage, and disposal procedures for the product
restraint
physical or chemical way to restrict voluntary movement or behavior
physical restraint
any method, device, material, or equipment that restricts a person’s freedom of movement, includes vest restraints, belt restraints, wrist/ankle restraints, and mitt restraints
chemical restraint
meds used to control a person’s mood or behavior
enabler
equipment/device that promotes a resident’s safety, comfort, independence, and mobility
suffocation
stoppage of breathing from lack of oxygen or excess of carbon dioxide in the body that may result in unconsciousness or death
muscle atrophy
weakening or wasting away of the muscle
