rehabilitation
care that is managed by professionals to help restore a person to his or her highest possible level of functioning
restorative care
goal is to keep R at level achieved by rehab services
trapeze
triangular piece of equipment that hangs over head of the bed that ppl can grasp with their hands which enables them to lift themselves, assists with repositioning and exercise activities
ROM
exercises that put a particular joint through its full arc of motion, goals are to decrease or prevent contractures or atrophy, improve strength, and increase circulation
active ROM (AROM)
exercises are performed by resident himself, without help, NA is to encourage R
active assisted ROM (AAROM)
exercises done by the R with some assistance and support from NA
passive ROM (PROM)
exercises used when R are not able to move on their onw, performed by NA without R’s help
abduction
moving a body part AWAY from midline of body
adduction
moving a body part TOWARDS midline of body
extension
straightening a body part
flexion
bending a body part
dorsiflexion
bending backward
rotation
turning joint
pronation
turning downward
supination
turning upward
