Clinical description of specific phobia
i. An irrational fear of a specific object or situation that markedly interferes with an individuals ability to function
Define blood injury injection phobia
a. Marked drop in heart rate and blood pressure, unlike many other phobies
b. Runs in families more strongly than any other type of phobia
Define situational phobia
a. Fear of public transportation or enclosed spaces
b. Never experience panic attack outside the context of their phobia
Define natural environment phobia
a. Fears of situations or events occurring in nature
Define animal phobia
a. Only considered a phobia if severe interference with functioning occurs
What are some stats on specific phobias?

i. Marked fear/anxiety focused on one or more social/performance situations
ii. Only when others are watching does the problem manifest itself

Define Olfactory Response Syndrome
i. belief that one is offending others with foul body odor
What are some main causes of SAD?
- Inherited fear of social occasions
- Stressful time in public causes panic attack, therefore, they don’t want to go out in panic again
- Real social trauma resulting in true alarm
