Ideology
Comprehensive/consistent set of ideas.
Valence Issues
Policies that are viewed by different ideologies in the same way.
Wedge Issues
Divide the public clearly.
Saliency
Intense importance to an individual/group.
Liberal
Being open to allow the government to act flexibly.
Conservative
Following tradition.
Moderate
Somewhere between the ideologies.
Libertarian
Oppose all government regulation.
Populist
Focuses on the common people. Mainly Christians/Southerners.
Progressive
Challenges typical/traditional ideas.
Party Platforms
You can find a party’s ideology from it’s platform. That reveals why parties do what they do. Try to make the platforms from what the voters like.
Key Points: Democratic Party Platform
- Healthcare for the poor
- Equal rights for women
- LGBTQ+ people are equal
- Fix immigration system
- Fix climate change
- Reproductive rights
Key Points: Republican Party Platform
- More work requirements
- Death penalty is fine
- LGBTQ+ people are not chill
- Secure the borders
- Guns are chill
- Reproductive rights suck
