How does the president's agenda cause confrontation with Congress?
The Vice President
Assistant to the president. They have little influence and an undefined job. They are the President of the Senate. Next in line for president.
Cabinet
Secretaries for the president that manage large departments. There are 15, but the president can create more.
Secretaries
Minority appointments that can help with the agenda.
Ambassador
Diplomat chosen to represent the US with a foreign country.
Joint Chiefs of Staff
Top uniformed officers from each division who advice the president on military.
Federal Agencies
Subcabinet entities that perform specific functions.
White House Staff
Serve the president first and have no ties to departments/competition for funding. Doesn’t need Senate approval.
Chief of Staff
Keeps the White House running smoothly. No official policymaking power but has lots of influence.
Inherent Powers
Powers not listed, but within control of the exective.
Bullet Pulpit
The president talks to the people to pressure Congress to do something.
State of the Union
Informs the public and the government of what’s been happening in the government.
Article II, Section 3
President will take care that the laws will be faithfully executed.
Removal
The president can remove elected officials. Only with reason.
