25
chainsaw safety
wear full duty gear, gloves and face shield/hearing protection wildland - use chainsaw chaps and forestry helmet keep a firm grip avoid cutting across your body cut with full RPMs avoid the bars kickback zone
26
rotational kickback
violent reaction which occurs when the chain at the upper section of the nose is suddenly stopped upward arc towards the operator
27
linear kickback
is a push reaction occurs if the saw blade is buried in the cut when the cut closes and thereby pinches the chain along the top rails of the bar
28
to prevent kickback
keep a good firm grip dont let the kickback zone of the guide bar contact any obstructions always cut with full RPMs dont overreach or cut above shoulder height
29
chain brake
designed to stop the rotation of the chain in less than 1/20 of a second
30
3 positions of the chain brake
1 - center position - chain brake is neutral (disengaged) 2 - forward - brake is engaged 3 - back position - used to disengage the brake
31
if the saw is run with the chain brake engaged
the clutch, oil pump and chain brake will be damaged
32
chain tension
tight as possible without restricting chain movement
33
fuel and oil - bullet saw requires either
- gas with synthetic pre-mis oil mixed at a 100:1 ratio - oil premix is petroleum base 2-cycle oil it is a 50:1 ratio
34
fuel and oil - stihl saw
50:1 ratio
