CFD Ladder Belt and Harness Flashcards
Purpose of the work positioning belt (ladder belt)
used by FF when climbing or working from stick aerial ladders
is used as a travel restraint system that prevents the user from reaching hazardous situation in which a vertical free-fall is possible
Limitations of the work positioning belt (ladder belt)
max user weight 141kg (310lbs)
belts must not be used in a situation where a free-fall could occur
- use a full body harness is a free-fall
situation
do not lean into the belt, thereby forcing it to support the majority of your weight
Belts that have been subjected to impact forces or extreme use
must be removed from service and sent to the equipment and supply (CFD Stores) for professional inspection
Ladder Belt Inspection
before use, after extended storage and annually
remove the belt from service if the inspection reveals the belt is unsafe or is in defective condition
harness should be tagged and returned to Equipment and supply for a replacement if the manufactured date is more than 10 years old
Purpose of the Yates Voyager Harness
used by FF when working in or on operating aerial devices
is used as a travel restraint system that prevents the user from reaching hazardous situation in which a vertical free-fall is possible
also part of a system to capture a user who has experienced a vertical fall
Limitations of the Yates Voyager Harness
maximum user weight for this harness is 141kg (310lbs)
Yates Voyager Harness Anchorage
the system will include a short sala shock absorber, that has a max deployment distance of 1.3m, attached to a self-retracting lanyard (SRL) with a self-locking snap hook
D-Rings yates voyager harness
D-rings on the harness are the only attachment points that are rated on the harness for usage (5 different D-rings)
5 Different D-Rings
main rescuer connection (centered on waist)
rescuer secondary connection (located sternly, commonly belay)
dorsal is located mid-back (commonly used for fall arrest system attachment)
two side of waist (used for working positioning and travel restraint only - where fall potential does not exist)
Yates Voyager Harness Inspection
inspect belt before use, after extended storage and annually
harness should be tagged and returned to equipment and supplies for a replacement if the manufactured date is more than 10yrs old
Harness Suspension syndrome
medical concern and can occur whenever a rescuer or a patient is suspended motionless in a harness
state of cardiovascular collapse
Harness Suspension Syndrome caused
mainly by the pooling of blood in the lower extremities as a result of occlusion of the veins by the harness
How to improve patients experiencing harness suspension syndrome
by moving their legs or flexing their leg muscles
Hazard of harness suspension syndrome
an overabundance of blood may suddenly rush back into circulation
symptoms of harness suspension syndrome
- faintness
- difficulty breathing
- sweating/paleness
- hot flashes
- increased HR and BP, followed by low HR and decreased BP
- altered LOC
- visual disturbance
- dizziness nausea
- unconsciousness
