Cervical + Brachial Plexuses Flashcards
1
Q
cervical plexus
A
combination of ventral rami from spinal nerves C1 - C5
2
Q
phrenic nerve
A
- most important nerve of cervical plexus
- stems from ventral rami of C3 - C5
- supplies motor + sensory fibers to diaphragm
3
Q
irritation of phrenic nerve
A
causes hiccups
4
Q
severed phrenic nerve
A
causes paralysis of diaphragm
will need ventilator (mechanical respirator) to breathe
5
Q
brachial plexus
A
- stems from ventral rami of C5 - T1
6
Q
major branches of brachial plexus (5)
A
- axillary nerve
- radial nerve
- median nerve
- ulnar nerve
- musculocutaneous nerve
7
Q
axillary nerve
A
- innervates deltoid, teres minor, longhead of triceps brachii
- carries sensory info from shoulder joint
8
Q
radial nerve
A
- innervates triceps brachii, forearm/wrist/finger extensors (12)
- carries sensory info from associated joints + skin
9
Q
median nerve
A
- innervates flexor muscles of forearm, skin of first 3.5 fingers
10
Q
ulnar nerve
A
- innervates parts of flexors of forearm/wrist/fingers, skin of 1/2 of ring finger and the pinky
11
Q
musculocutaneous nerve
A
- innervates flexor muscles of arm (biceps brachii and brachialis)
