CAT II/III Approachs Flashcards
Who is always the pilot flying for CAT II/III approach’s?
The captain is always the pilot flying. The first officer is always the pilot monitoring.
What flap setting/s is/are approved for CAT III approach’s?
Flaps 3 or Flaps full
Why is config full recommended for CAT III landings over flaps 3?
It gives you better slant range visibility
Can you autoland on a narrow runway?
No
Which aircraft are not authorized to perform an autoland in either ANC or FAI?
228-238 and 701-721
What’s the minimum braking action (and therefore RCC) that’s acceptable for an autoland?
Braking action medium, or RCC 3, is the lowest that’s acceptable for an autoland.
What’s the lowest pressure altitude you can perform an autoland in?
-1000’
What is Frontier’s policy regarding when we need to perform an autoland?
Whenever the visibility is below 1/2sm visibility or 2400 RVR, we must set up, brief, and fly the approach as an autoland, as long as all autoland requirements can be met. This does not preclude the PIC from flying a regular CAT I approach if not all CAT II/III requirements can be met.
What’s the maximum airport altitude for an autoland?
For the 700 series aircraft it’s 5750’
For all other aircraft it’s 9200’
What do you need to do if you plan to perform an autoland, and the weather is at or above 800’ ceilings and 2sm visibility?
You need to advise ATC that you plan on performing an autoland so that they can keep the critical area clear. This is granted on an ATC workload permitting basis. If they are unable to keep the critical area clear you may still continue but be ready to take manual control and or go-around.
What auto brake selections are permitted for an autoland on a runway less than 8000’ long?
Only auto brakes medium
What are the autoland maximum winds for A/C 601-699?
Headwind 15 knots
Crosswind 10 knots
Tailwind 10 knots
Vapp = Vls + 5 to 15 knots
What are the autoland maximum winds for A/C 228-299, 301-399, 701-799?
Headwind 30 knots
Crosswind 15 knots
Tailwind 10 knots
Vapp = Vls + 5 to 15 knots
Are we authorized to perform a single engine autoland approach?
Per frontier policy we are not, however the aircraft is certified to perform them. The captain may elect to use his emergency authority to perform a single-engine autoland approach if he deems that it’s the safest course of action. IF the captain elects to do this, the aircraft must be in config full.
What must you see at alert height in order to continue a CAT III approach?
CAT 3 DUAL is displayed on the FMA
