Biodiversity- habitats Flashcards
1
Q
Habitat fragmentation
A
When one large habitat is divided into several smaller habitats.
2
Q
Causes of habitat fragmentation
A
Agriculture, building of roads or urbanisation
3
Q
Effect of habitat fragmentation
A
Decrease the surface area of the habitat, hence decreasing the resources available, decreasing species richness as there will be smaller populations - leading to a decrease in biodiversity
4
Q
How to prevent habitat fragmentation
A
Use of habitat corridors links the isolated fragments, allow the movement of animals between them allowing an increased access to food and a choice of mate.
