ARB (-sartan) Flashcards
1
Q
overall MOA of ARB
A
- antagonist at AT1 (angiotensin II type 1) receptor = blocks binding of angiotensin II
- Results in ↓blood vessel vasoconstriction, ↓aldosterone release, and ↓constriction of the efferent arterioles
2
Q
ARB indication
A
Alternative if ACEi intolerant in HTN, kidney disease, heart failure, etc.
3
Q
ARB AE
A
similar to ACEi except no dry cough because it doesn’t stop angiotensin-II from being made, just stops it from binding
4
Q
ARB drug names to be familiar with
A
- Losartan
- Valsartan
