- used for MRSA, C.diff, increasing resistance
- potential AEs: hypotension
Mr Sa took me in a van to C different views and gave me hypotension
gentamicin

- used for gram+
- potential AEs: ototoxicity, nephrotoxicity

macrolides
- azithromycin (Z-pack), erythromycin
- Broad
- GI issues, QT prolongation, CYP inhibitors (DDI)
macro = large = full package (z-pack) = GI and heart issues
tetracyclines
- doxycycline
- broad
- usually well tolerated
- potential AEs: GI, photosensitivity (easily sunburned)
My broad 4-legged doxy is very photogenic and poops a lot
lincosamide
- clindamycin (Cleocin)
- gram +
- GI, can cause C.diff
Little Cindy tested positive for c.diff
fluoroquinolone
- levofloxacin (Levaquin)
- ciprofloxacin
- gram -
- GI, phototoxicity, tendon rupture, hypoglycemia
I levitated off the floor and fell and ruptured my tendon
nitroimidazole
- metronidazole (Flagyl)
- used for anaerobes
- GI, metallic taste, peripheral neuropathy
Nitrogen made me flatulate and it tasted like metal
sulfonamide
- sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim (Bactrim)
- broad
- allergy, Stevens-Johnson syndrome
If you have SJS, you suffer (sulfonamide) but try meth (trimethoprim) to make you feel better. You suffer even more (sulfamethoxazole) when you realize your back needs a trim (Bactrim) from all the dead skin :(
