Only 1 exchange organization can exist within the AD forest
All other logical components fall under the organization
Three (3) admin models for Microsoft Exchange Organization
Centralized Admin:
-Only 1 admin group is used and permissions and access to the Exchange Servers is tightly controlled
-Even if servers are in multiple physical locations they are still in the same admin group
Decentralized Amin:
-Admin groups are divided into seperate physical locations and permissions and access is adminsitered locally instead of from a centralized location
Mixed:
-Combo of both
Three (3) core components of Microsoft Exchange
Information Store: -Collection of databases -Mailbox and public folder store -Notifies clients when email arrives Routing Engine -Routes messages to other Exchange servers in the organization -Routes messages to external email servers as appropriate using SMTP connectors System Attendent -Builds routing tables -Generates addresses for emails sent outside the organization -Enables/Disable digital signatures -Logs all errors
Automated Handling System (AMHS)
Adopted by the Marine Corps in November 2007 and is the official messaging system consisting of governement COTS software and hardware use to prepare, submit, transport, deliver, store, and retrieve organizational messages
Replaces legacy equipment and messaging centers that comprised the automatic digital network (AUTODIN) and the Defense Messaging System (DMS)
