Annex E06 Strategic Satellite Architecture Overview Flashcards
Uplink Freq
Used by SATCOM terminal to satellite
Department of Defense Information Network
Globally interconnected, end to end set of info capabilities, associated processes and personnel for collecting, processing, storing, disseminating, and managing info on demand for warfighters, policy makers and support personnel
Downlink Freq
Used from satellite to SATCOM terminal
Transponder
Acts as a repeater in the sky, transponder receives transmissions from the ground, amplifies the signal, changes its freq and xmt the signal back to earth
Signal to Noise Ratio
Proportion of usable or desired signal (S) to the noise (N), or undesired signal.
Eb/No
Energy per bit to noise power spectral density ratio
Signal to Noise ratio per bit
Eb is signal energy per bit
No is the noise energy per Hertz of noise bandwidth
Frequency Division Multiple Access (FDMA)
Sharing transmission channel among two or more users by assigned each to an exclusive frequency band within the channel
Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA)
Allocating a discrete amount of freq bandwidth to each user, iot permit many simultaneous conversations with each user assigned a specific timeslot for xmt
Standardized Tactical Entry Point (STEP)/Teleport
Entry points for tactical forces to the DOD Information Systems Network and are strategically located throughout the world
Satellite Access Request (SAR)
Prepared and submitted for access to strategic satellite systems to provide worldwide connectivity in the tactical warfighting environment
Gateway Access Request (GAR)
Prepared and submitted for acess to DISN IOT provide worldwide secure and non secure voice, vide, and data connectivity in the tactical warfighting environment.
