Annex E07 Satellite Earth Terminals Flashcards
High Power Amplifier
Boosts uplink to enable antenna to reach the satellite
Antenna Control Unit (ACU)
Performs satellite acquisition and tracking
Low Noise Block Downconverter
Used in receiving downlink from satellite
Combination of low noise amp and freq mixer
Receives downlink, amps it, downconverts the block of freqs to a lower block usable by the modem
Block Upconverter
Used in the xmt of uplinks
Converts a band of freqs from a lower freq to higher freq usable by the satellite
Modem
Converts data into binary form and back
Point to Point (PTP) SATCOM
- Each terminal combines info to be sent to distant end into a single output and xmts it to the satellite
Hub-Spoke SATCOM
Outgoing signals from the hub terminal to all distant end terminals are combined and transmitted at the same center frequency, all distant end terminals receive the same signal after the satellite retransmits it
Mesh SATCOM
Similar to hub and spoke however the signals received by terminals with multiple distant ends include info intended for other terminals, in that case, the desired info must be seperated from those signals and the remaining ignored in the same manner as signals received by spoke terminals.
Hybrid Mesh SATCOM
At times, terminals serving as a hub may need to communicate with both other hubs and spokes simultaneously
This combination combines the PTP and mesh connectivity
