Aerodrome 2 Flashcards
Where shall runway edge lights be placed?
Runway edge lights shall be placed along the full length of the runway and shall be in two parallel rows equidistant from the center line.
What runways shall runway threshold lights be provided for?
Runway threshold lights shall be provided for a runway equipped with runway edge lights, except on a non instrument or non precision approach runway where the threshold is displaced and wing bar lights are provided.
Where shall runway threshold lights be placed when the threshold is at the extremity of a runway?
Runway threshold lights shall be placed in a row at right angles to the runway axis as near to the extremity of the runway as possible and, in any case, not more than 3m outside the extremity.
What are the characteristics of runway threshold and wing bar lights?
Runway threshold and wing bar lights shall be fixed unidirectional lights showing green in the direction of approach to the runway. The intensity and beam spread of the lights shall be adequate for the conditions of visibility and ambient light in which use of the runway is intended.
On what runway shall runway end lights be provided for?
Runway end lights shall be provided for a runway equipped with runway edge lights.
Where shall runway end lights be located?
Runway end lights shall be placed on a line at right angles to the runway axis as near to the end of the runway as possible, in any case, not more than 3m outside the end.
What are the characteristics of runway end lights?
Runway end lights shall be fixed unidirectional lights showing red in the direction of the runway. The intensity and beam spread of the lights shall be adequate for the conditions of visibility and ambient light in which use of the runway is intended.
Why shall stopway lights be provided?
Stopway lights shall be provided for a stopway intended for use at night.
Where shall stopway lights be located?
Stopway lights shall be placed along the full length of the stopway and shall be in two parallel rows that are equidistant from the center line and coincident with the rows of the runway edge lights. Stopway lights shall also be provided across the end of a stopway on a line at right angles to the stopway axis as near to the end of the stopway as possible and, in any case, not more than 3m outside the end.
Why shall signs be provided?
Signs shall be provided to convey a mandatory instruction, information on a specific location or destination on a movement area or to provide other information to meet the requirements of surface movement guidance and control systems.
What are the characteristics of a sign?
Signs shall be frangible. Those located near a runway or taxiway shall be sufficiently low to preserve clearance for propellers and the engine pods of jet aircraft.
The installed height of the sign shall not exceed the appropriate dimensions.
Where shall information signs be provided ?
An information sign shall be provided where there is an operational need to identify by a sign, a specific location, or routing (direction or destination) information.
What kind of signs shall information signs include?
Information signs include: direction signs, location signs, destination signs, runway exit signs, runway vacated signs and intersection take-off signs.
What color shall an information sign other than a location sign consist of?
An information sign other than a location sign shall consist of an inscription in black on a yellow background.
What shall a location sign consist of?
A location sign shall consist of an inscription in yellow on a black background and where it is a stand alone sign shall have a yellow border.
