8.3 Flashcards
What is translation?
DNA being translated into RNA
What is the central dogma?
Where the RNA is transcribed
What are the base pairing rules for RNA?
AT GC
DNA vs. RNA
DNA: has thymine, double stranded, information/ code for proteins
RNA: has urnanine, single stranded, makes proteins
What does the enhancer do?
Switches the cycle on , tells how much to make
What does the promoter do?
Start site of transcription, signals stuff to attatch
What does the exons do?
What will make up the RNA
What does the introns do?
What will get cut out
What happens during initiation?
Transcription factors bind to active site, starts to make RNA
What happens during elongation?
Makes more RNA, leaves transcription factors, 5’ cap is added
What happens during termination?
Finishes RNA, adds polyA tail
What happens during the splicing process?
Removes introns
What happens during alternative splicing?
Removes introns, but will also remove extrons
