8.2 Flashcards
What is the leading stand?
The strand that is made continuously and from the 3 prime end to the 5 prime end, goes in the same direction of replication fork
What is the lagging strand?
Made not continuously, made away from the replication fork.
Is DNA replication continuous or discontinuous?
discontinuous
What is semi conservative replication?
The DNA splits in half and is replicated
What are Okizaki fragments?
The fragments on the lagging strand
What does helicase do?
Unzips DNA
What does DNA polymerase 1 do?
Removes RNA primers and adds DNA strands for lagging strands
What does DNA polymerase 3 do?
Adds DNA nucleotides to unzipped strand
What does ligase do?
glues fragments together on the lagging strands
What does Primase do?
adds RNA primers
Order of events of DNA replication
- DNA is split
- RNA primer is laid down
- DNA bases are added
- Remove RNA primer
- Glue together fragments
