8.1 Flashcards

1
Q

How was the Griffith experiment set up?

A

He injected mice with a deadly smooth strand of pneumonia, a rough strand, a killed strand, and a combination of the killed strand and the rough strand.

Q

How was the Avery, MacLeod, and McCarty experiment set up?

A

They injected mice with the same combo of killed strands and rough strands, but took out either DNA, RNA, and protein. They realized that it did not transform with out DNA.

Q

How was the Hershey and Chase experiment set up?

A

They made either the shell of the bacteria or the inside radioactive so after they blinded it up they could see if the shell or infected cell was radio active.

Q

Similarities and differences of DNA and RNA

A

DNA: Thymine, deoxyribose sugar, stores information
RNA: Uricul, ribose sugar, makes proteins
Both: Phosphate and nitrogenous bases, A C and G
