5.3 Flashcards
What is London Disperson
A temporary weak molecule interaction. Caused by the movement of electrons in the molecule.
What is Dipole-Dipole attractions
Permenant interactions between two molecules. Only polar molecules
What is a Hydrogen Bond interaction
Very strong dipole-dipole interactions. Only polar
Weakest Interaction to Strongest
London dispersion, dipole-dipole, Hydrogen
How do you tell if a molecule is polar or non polar
if it is not symmetrical and contains a polar covalent bond then it is polar.
How to tell what type of interaction a molecule will form
If the molecules has OH bonds, then it will probably be hydrogen, if they are polar, it will be dipole-dipole, if they are non-polar, it will be London Disperson.
How to tell if a molecule will be soluble in water
