7.5 Cardiac Cycle Flashcards
What is diastole
Relaxation of the heart
What is systole?
Contraction of the heart
What is diastolic pressure?
Relaxed blood pressure
What is systolic pressure?
Contracted heart pressure
What is atrial systole?
Atrium contracting
Ventricular systole?
Ventricles contracting
Describe the 3 stages of the cardiac cycle
1- blood flows into atria and ventricles, atrioventricular valves open, semi lunar valves close, relaxed ventricles
2- atria contracts to push remaining blood into ventricles, atrioventricular valves open, semi lunar closed, atria contracting
3- ventricles contract and thicken, atrioventricular valves close, semi lunar open
What is the equation for cardiac output?
Heart rate X stroke volume
