4.4 Active Transport Flashcards
What are the 3 components of ATP
Triphosphate chain
Adenine
Ribose sugar
What is difference between ATP and ADP?
ADP has 1 less phosphate than ATP
What does ATP stand for?
Adenosine triphospahate
How is energy released from ATP?
By a phosphate being hydrolysed out of its bond
Where and from which processes is ATP released from?
The mitochondria
Respiration
Which protein does active transport use?
Carrier proteins
How does ATP move molecules against the concentration gradient?
ATP loses a phosphate, this bonds to the carrier protein giving it energy to change shape to allow molecules out
What are the limiting factors of active transport?
Number of mitochondria
Amount of ATP
Rate of respiration
Number of carrier proteins available
