7.4 The Heart Strucutre Flashcards
What is the order in which blood flows though the heart?
Vena cava
Right atrium
Tricuspid valve supported by tendons
Right ventricle
Pulmonary artery
Pulmonary vein
Left atrium
Bicuspid valve
Left ventricle
Aorta
Why is the heart not symmetrical?
Left side needs more muscle to pump oxygenated blood to the whole body
What vessels supply oxygen to heart muscles?
Coronary arteries
How does the heart beat?
SA node get nerve impulse from brain
This causes the atria to contract
This electrical pulse then goes to the AV node which delays the pulse
The pulse is then send to the bundle of HIS which contracts the ventricles
What are the cells that send pulses around in the heart called?
Specialised cardiac cells (not nerves)
